You build backend services that carry real business processes: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL and Camunda – from the requirement to running on GCP.

Why this role matters

Business processes are not decided in slide decks but in services that have to run every day: a case that travels correctly through several systems, a message that posts nothing twice on its second delivery attempt, a migration nobody notices. That is where you work. You own features through to delivery, align dependencies with other development and central service teams, and stay with it until it is stable in production.

Your mission

You turn business requirements into backend functionality that survives production: comprehensible interfaces, traceable processes, failure cases handled properly. What you build is operated, observed and developed further – by you and by the teams that come after you.

What you will do

• Build services: Java 25, Spring Boot and Maven; clear REST interfaces and code someone else can still change in two years
• Master the message flow: integrate microservices and Kafka with a firm grasp of retries, idempotency and transaction boundaries
• Model the data: PostgreSQL on Cloud SQL, data modelling, query optimisation and migrations with Flyway
• Connect the processes: Camunda and BPMN – execute processes, spot deviations and handle errors cleanly
• Operate, not hand over: GCP, Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform, following the standards of the central infrastructure teams
• Secure quality: unit and integration tests, XRay, Git, code reviews and GitLab pipelines – including the ones that are currently red
• Find the problems: use Datadog logs, metrics, traces and alerts to follow an error across several services
• Work at the seam: agree API contracts together with the frontend and resolve integration issues rather than passing them back and forth
• Record the decisions: tasks, decisions and reasoning in Jira, Confluence and the repository documentation – so they stay findable

Your profile

Must have

• Several years of backend development with Java and Spring Boot, at senior level
• Microservices and event-driven architectures with Kafka – you know why idempotency is not a side topic
• A firm grip on PostgreSQL: data model, query optimisation, migrations
• Experience with containers and cloud operations: Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code
• Testing is part of the work for you, not a separate ticket
• A high degree of autonomy and the willingness to speak directly with external parties
• You explain technical matters so that a business expert can decide on them
• Very good written and spoken German

Nice to have

• Camunda and BPMN in production use
• GCP and Terraform, particularly in an environment with central standards
• Datadog or comparable tooling for logs, metrics and traces
• Vue 3 – enough to talk to the frontend as an equal about interfaces
• Domain understanding from health insurance or another regulated industry

How we work

Hybrid: your on-site days take place at the client in Zurich, development happens wherever you work best. Our office is in Meggen near Lucerne. 80–100 %, starting immediately.
